LIVESTOCK GUARD DOGS
The Hired Hands
We could not raise livestock without our LGDs.
Without them, we could not sleep at night!
Our area of Ohio has numerous coyotes, and black bears are becoming more common sightings.
Black vultures are also moving into the area.
BETH
Guards the Katahdin flock.  She is three, and the first LGD we have raised from a pup.  Surprisingly, we did not spoil her, as she is a wonderful guard as well as very loving with us.  She stays with the sheep faithfully, thought she has a soft spot for the Highlands.
BOB & LUKE
Our first two guards came to us as 9 month old nuetered males.  They had been guarding goats in Texas, but made the switch to our sheep without missing a beat.  Luke's hips gave out and he was put down this past year, but old Bob is still going strong.  He guards the BFLs so that he can have the shelter of the barn during the winter.
These are our newest guys, Tim and Buddy. They are brothers, and cousins of Beth's.  They are learning their jobs while guarding the Katahdin replacement yearlings.  Besides being incredibly cute, they are also shaping up to be exceptional guards with no training from us.
MEET TANK!
He comes to us from our friends, Anne & Gordon Bisdorf.
