The Ohio state rabbit convention was Sunday. I took 2 French and 3 Satin Angoras to show, as well as one FA doe to deliver to her new owner. Angoras were called to the judging table fairly late in the day - around 2PM, I think. There were about 20 FAs shown, which is a decent number, but down from year's past. 2 people who had entered rabbits did not come, maybe due to gasoline prices.
The REW Jr doe I had sold and delivered to the show ended up winning best of breed! Her new owners were shocked, and seemed very happy to have won. What a way to start your show career - winning the state convention! My fawn SR buck, Somerhill Valhalla, got BOS and his first leg. He is not in prime coat yet, but the judge liked his body, extreme density, and texture. Both rabbits were sired by GC Somerhill Evan. My fawn Jr buck, Spang's Vidal, won his class, but unfortunately there were just 4 in it, so did not win a second leg. Oh well, he got very good comments, and has plenty of time in his show career.
It was a beautiful sunny day - just perfect for a nice drive and for sitting outside grooming rabbits and laughing with friends.
