Somerhill Farm
Bluefaced Leicester Sheep, French and Satin Angora Rabbits
Entry for May 11, 2008
Vendetta has 8 new bunnies in her nestbox this morning.  They are sired by Valhalla.  At first check, I did not see any REWs so I think they will all be fawns, or  maybe some torts.    Yesterday was her due date, and boy was she grumpy!   Today, she is perky and if rabbits can smile, I think she is.  She definitely seems very pleased with herself.  So am I.

Today its raining and rather cold, with some rumbles of thunder.  A good day to be inside.   We weaned the March born AI lambs this morning by carrying them to a different barn across the road from their mothers.   In a few days, we'll let them out into a nice fresh paddock to graze, but for now, they are secured in the barn with plenty of hay, water and grain.   Chuck was gentlemanly enough to carry the biggest ones, but even the smaller ones are heavy and quite a load to tote across the road and up a lane.   We could have hauled them in a trailer but that would have taken more time getting the big wooden crate out of storage in the top of the barn, etc.    I'm going to weigh them all tonight to find out how much I can bench press.   (actually to get 60 day weights - hehe)

Hi, Lisa! What cute lamb pictures!! Be sure to take some of the baby bunnies. I love to watch them grow and enjoy them vicariously. I remember watching the Rios bunnies grow each day as Franco (is that right?) put up daily pictures of them.

Andy is enjoying the parsley and dandelions he's getting these days. I planted two parsleys right next to his cage and left a dandelion unweeded with them, so when he sees me he runs to the front of the cage and presses his nose out, knowing that he'll get a treat.
I enjoy reading about your farm adventures and livestock. Take care!
