Entry for July 15, 2008
I clipped Mandalay and bred her to Bedouin tonight. Mandy is a chocolate agouti Satin Angora, registered, with 2 GC legs. Both legs were won this spring at the PA state convention. One is BOV out of 9 with 6 exhibitors, and the other is BOSV out of 6 with 5 exhibitors. This was stiff competition from some of the best breeders on the east coast. I think Mandy had her competition beaten hands down on density. She was wearing her baby coat at the time, and so lost out to the BOB on texture. The second coat I just clipped has excellent sheen, and I think very good texture. She has beautiful color, with good rufus factor to the red band in her wool. I look forward to being able to possibly finishing her championship this fall/winter when her first adult coat comes in.
Mandy had a nice body. Good shoulders and midsection with a nice rise, and full lower hindquarters. Her weakness is that she has more prominent pinbones than I'd like to see, although not bad stacked up against other Satin Angoras. Bedouin is very similar to her - same coloring and general body type, but with slightly smoother hips, and better length to his coat. He has always placed first in his class, and normally BOS, but has never been shown where there are enough for legs. I hope that the breeding is successful - its always a gamble in the heat of the summer. If so, there should be reds and chocolate agoutis in the litter. Off to spin up the wool I just clipped! 2008-07-15 23:07:28 GMT
