Entry for September 6, 2008
The first show of the fall season was at Painesville, Ohio today. There were 2 open shows plus a Wool-arama specialty. There were 20 French Angoras shown - the only breed there. I managed to pull off one 1st in colored junior doe. The other 2 shows, she placed second in a class of 8. She is a fawn, Somerhill Vignette, a 4 month old doe out of SHF Valhalla and SHF Vendetta. I took Ruby Slippers and Red Dawn to get some idea of how they stack up to purebred French. Ruby was 3rd in each show, and I overheard one of the judges point her out as the standout on the table as far as body scoring. YIPPEE!! Dawn was either 4th or 5th in each show. Both does had good density and length, but were discounted for soft coats. They do have a slightly different texture - a little more silky feeling than a normal French junior does. Maybe that will change as they become adults, or maybe it will take another generation or two to get the texture of coat right. Anyway, they did well, and I am encouraged with my progress.
